Youri EGOROV

Biography Born in 1954, pianist Youri Egorov began his piano studies at the age of six at the Music School and Conservatory in Kazan. In 1971 he was a prizewinner in the Marguerite Long-Jacques Thibaud Competition in Paris, and was admitted to the Moscow Conservatory to study with the late Jacov Zak. In 1974 he was a top prize winner at the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, and, in 1975, at the Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition in Brussels. Youri Egorov was enormously successful in his New York recital debut at Alice Tully Hall in 1978, and in his Chicago debut the same year. He performed with the Chicago Symphony in 1979, and made a triumphant return to New York in his Carnegie Hall debut that season. Youri Egorov's first visit to the United Kingdom was in October, 1980, when he gave 18 concerts in 13 cities in one month. He made his London debut at that time at the Royal Festival Hall with the Scottish National Orchestra, and his London recital debut at Queen Elizabeth Hall. Since then, Youri Egorov has given three more critically acclaimed Carnegie Hall recitals. Donal Henahan of The New York Times wrote: "This recital left no doubt about Mr. Egorov's musical gifts or his audience appeal." He has been soloist with the New York Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the National Symphony. He has appeared in recital at both the Metropolitan Museum and the Frick Museum in New York, at Chicago's Orchestra Hall, and at the Ravinia and Caramoor Festivals. In Europe he appears with the Concertgebouw of Amsterdam, where he resides, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestre National de France, Munich Philharmonic, Rotterdam Philharmonic, and at the Edinburgh Festival. He has also performed with Japan's NHK Orchestra. Youri Egorov, called by the New York Post "the most interesting pianist of his generation", records for European EMI, Peters International and Angel.
